There’s a falsehood in what most people tell you about SARMs.
Some are just ignorant of it, honestly spreading what they believe to be the truth. Others just lie to sell you more of their SARM products.
What is the falsehood?
It’s that SARMs don’t cause gynecomastia (man titties) or other estrogen-related side effects.
Most blogs tell you that SARMs can’t convert into estrogen, thus sparing you from all related side effects like gynecomastia and bloating.
It’s true that SARMs don’t convert into estrogen. Because they are non-steroidal and don’t work exactly like normal hormones.
They are just designed to bind with — and activate — your androgen receptors in the way testosterone would, giving you similar muscle growth effects in muscle, tendons, and bone.
Which is a great benefit…
Estrogen conversion is a problem for lots of people.
Estrogen causes side effects like gynecomastia, water retention, loss of libido, mood swings, acne and so forth. They are not very pleasant, and if you let something such as gynecomastia progress too far, you may have to resort to an operation to rid yourself of it.
Gynecomastia is by far the most feared problem in the bodybuilding world. And that’s for a reason.
It’s enlargement in the breast tissue around your nipples — man boobs. Your the area around your nipples grows, it becomes sore and itchy. It doesn’t look good, doesn’t feel pleasant and if you let it go too far, it can only be removed by surgery.
Which is also why SARMs are quite an attractive option. No conversion into estrogen (aromatizing), no estrogen related side effects, no gynecomastia.
Or SO I THOUGHT…
Until I learned of this shocking point…
Although SARMs don’t aromatize, they can indirectly cause an increased estrogen production in your body, in turn giving you estrogenic side effects.
Your body has something called androgenic receptors that are plastered outside every cell of your body. Androgenic hormones — like testosterone — flow through your veins and bind to these receptors.
That’s how the hormones have an effect on the cells the receptors belong to.
If a molecule of testosterone binds to the androgenic receptor in your bicep muscle, it will cause effects associated with testosterone. In the biceps muscle, that is muscle growth. But if it were to bind to a receptor in your skin, it could cause more hair growth.
SARMs work by also binding to your androgenic receptors.
But the special thing about SARMs is that they are very picky – they mostly bind to your muscle, bone and joint cells. Which allow them to have minimal negative effects on your heart, unlike as, which still exerting anabolic action.
BUT when SARMs bind to these receptors, your natural testosterone will have fewer receptors to bind with.
Think of testosterone molecules as boys, and your androgenic receptors as girls.
The girl can only have one boyfriend. So if a girl’s taken your testosterone has to search for luck elsewhere
But if enough receptors are bound to SARMs — for example if you take a high dosage — your testosterone can not find a girlfriend. It’s just on the prowl. It flows freely in your body and can’t really settle down anywhere.
That means two things can happen to it:
Your testosterone quits its search for a girlfriend altogether, and converts into estrogen instead.
Your testosterone takes the game one notch higher and turns into DHT, a hormone 7 times stronger than testosterone which accelerates male pattern baldness, agression and such.
Both outcomes can be considered negative.
Estrogenic side effects are not desirable, but neither are androgenic.
However, let’s focus on the estrogenic for this post.
If too many of your androgenic receptors are bound to SARMs, that means that more of your natural testosterone will convert into estrogen. Thus, you may get an increased risk of estrogenic side effects – gynecomastia for example.
Will your estrogen go through the roof..?
However, you need to keep in mind that it’s SARMs were talking about.
If you were to take steroids, for example, gigantic doses of testosterone, you’d also have more testosterone that could convert into estrogen. And since there’s just so much extra testosterone from the oil you injected in your buttcheeks, you’d be at risk of getting really high estrogen.
But how does it work when you only take SARMs?
With SARMs you’re not adding any EXTRA testosterone to the mix, as people who take steroids do. You’re just making more of your natural testosterone levels aromatize.
That is an important distinction, because that means the amount of testosterone that could to convert to estrogen is significantly lower. You’re just dealing with natural testosterone levels.
That also means you’re probably only likely to experience estrogenic effects if you’re very prone to it.
For example, if you had gynecomastia during puberty or from using other anabolics. It’s very individual and everyone is different when it comes to estrogen.
But keep this in mind:
No matter what, SARMs will always give you less estrogenic side effects than anabolic steroids.
The probability of you having them are incredibly low, and if you do, they will be much milder.
SARMs will not cause estrogenic effects in most people. However, it’s possible for a small number of people to get increased estrogen, gynecomastia and such.
Very low risk, and if it does happen it will be much milder than with steroids.
Nothing is risk free. SARMs are much safer than anabolic steroids, but there are risks such as these.
You can’t really know if you’ll get gynecomastia from SARMs unless you look at your past history and try SARMs out for yourself.
If you’re very concerned about man titties or other estrogen effects, you will just have to stay away completely from compounds that affect your androgenic hormones — steroids and SARMs.
Instead, you’ll be limited to research chemicals such as Cardarine or MK-677. If you want a practically 0% chance of gynecomastia from bodybuilding supplements, those are ones that can take you so far in terms of performance enhancement.
Until next time,
